Who we are and What we stand for

The GSLT is a supportive body that regulate speech and language therapists by providing  leadership, support and mediation; facilitates research and promotes education in speech and language therapy development, and able to assist with complaints brought against individual speech and language therapist.

Speech and language therapists (SLTs) are allied health professionals. They work with parents, and other professionals, such as teachers, nurses, occupational therapists and doctors in a variety of settings.

Ghana boasts of only a handful of SLTs serving over 25 million people whereas on the international front, there are around 17,000 practising SLTs in the UK alone working in a variety of settings. This is not a healthy balance for our nation 60 years on.

In this regard, GSLT is not only formed as a professional body for SLTs and support workers, but also formed to give guidance and support to Ghanaian youth who desire to venture into this area as a career choice to help in bridging the wide gap for nation building.

The GSLT is affiliated to some international bodies. Know more!
